About PEAS

Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS) operates one of the largest not-for-profit secondary school networks in Sub-Saharan Africa, supporting over 18,000 learners annually across Uganda and Zambia. PEAS works closely with government partners to strengthen education systems and improve learning outcomes, with a strong focus on equity, evidence, and system improvement.

In Zambia, PEAS collaborates with the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) and the Ministry of Education on the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) under the 2023 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework.

Assignment Overview

PEAS is undertaking a targeted qualitative consultation and mapping exercise to support the implementation of Zambia’s Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC). The study will include key informant interviews across school, district, provincial, central government, and partner levels.

We are recruiting Enumerators to conduct interviews, ensure accurate recording, and produce high-quality verbatim transcripts to support analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct Key Informant Interviews

• Conduct semi-structured interviews using PEAS-approved guides
• Engage respondents from schools, district/provincial education offices, Ministry structures, and partner organisations
• Obtain informed consent and follow ethical research protocols

2. Recording & Documentation

• Record all interviews using a reliable audio device (mandatory)
• Ensure clear audio quality and proper consent procedures
• Maintain accurate interview logs (participants, roles, dates, locations)

3. Transcription

• Produce verbatim transcripts from audio recordings
• Use approved transcription tools where appropriate, followed by manual verification
• Submit full transcripts (not summaries) in the required format

4. Data Quality & Management

• Ensure secure storage of all recordings and transcripts
• Label and organize files according to PEAS standards
• Participate in quality assurance reviews and corrections during fieldwork

Required Profile

Applicants should have:

• Proven experience conducting qualitative key informant interviews (not only surveys)
• Familiarity with Zambia’s education sector (CDC, DEBS, provincial and district education offices, Ministry structures)
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills
• Experience in recording interviews and using transcription tools
• Strong organizational and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently under tight timelines

Requirements:

• Own laptop (mandatory)
• Smartphone or reliable audio recording device (mandatory)
• Availability during the full fieldwork period (29 June – 19 July 2026)

Deliverables

• Completed key informant interviews as per assigned sample
• Verbatim transcripts for all interviews conducted
• Interview tracking log (participants, roles, dates, locations)
• Submission of clean, clearly labelled transcript files
