Job description
Job Summary
The Early Childhood and Primary School Teacher is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering lessons that meet the developmental needs of young learners (ages 3–12). The teacher will foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth while adhering to the Zambian Primary Curriculum and school policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum and Lesson Planning
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, schemes of work, and weekly forecasts aligned with the Zambian Primary Curriculum and Early Childhood Education standards.
Prepare teaching and learning materials, including charts, visual aids, and manipulatives, to support diverse learning styles.
Utilize innovative and play-based teaching methodologies to enhance learner understanding, participation, and foundational skill development.
Teaching and Classroom Management
Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment where children can play, learn, and develop socially and emotionally.
Manage classroom behavior positively, promoting respect, discipline, and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
Cater to diverse learning needs, including identifying and supporting learners with special educational needs or disabilities.
Assessment and Reporting
Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, including homework, class tests, and end-of-term examinations.
Observe and document children’s development, behavior, and academic progress to inform planning and provide constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, learner performance, and developmental milestones; prepare termly reports for parents.
Parent and Community Communication
Build trusting relationships with parents and families through open, respectful, and regular communication regarding their child’s progress.
Encourage parental involvement in the learning process and support positive family-school partnerships.
Participate in school meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and community engagement activities as required.
Professional and Administrative Duties
Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and safe for children at all times.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development workshops, and reflective practice sessions to continuously improve teaching quality.
Comply with all school policies, statutory regulations, and child protection/safeguarding requirements.
May be required to supervise extracurricular activities, school events, or playground duties.
