Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A proactive and results-driven Debt Management Accountant to join our finance team in Lusaka, Zambia. The Debt Management Officer will be responsible for managing the group’s outstanding debts, developing strategies to minimize bad debts, and improving cash flow. You need to have a strong background in credit control, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

KEY GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Monitor and analyze the organization’s debt portfolio, identifying trends and areas of concern.

* Develop and implement strategies to reduce outstanding debts and improve cash flow.

* Review credit applications and assess the credit worthiness of customers, suppliers, and partners.

* Negotiate payment plans and settlements with debtors to recover outstanding debts.

* Coordinate with internal departments (e.g sales, customer service) to resolve billing disputes and address customer concerns.

* Prepare aging reports, collection forecasts, and other financial analysis to support decision-making.

* Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations governing debt collection practices.

* Provide training and guidance to staff on debt management best practices.

REQUIREMENTS:

* A minimum Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and a degree is an added advantage.

* 5 years of experience in debt management, credit control or collections roles.

* Strong understanding of debt collection laws and regulations.

* Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and resolve conflicts.

* Proven ability to analyze financial data and develop effective debt management strategies.

* Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and the ability to prioritize tasks.

* Proficiency in MS Excel and debt management software (e.g. DMP, Debt Col).
