About the job
The purpose of this role is to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant transportation of goods, machinery, or heavy equipment using a lowbed trailer. The Driver will be responsible for adhering to national road safety regulations, company policies, and client delivery requirements, while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and accountability. This role plays a critical part in supporting operational efficiency, timely delivery, and overall service quality for the organization.
Responsibilities
Operate a lowbed trailer to transport heavy equipment, machinery, and other assigned cargo.
Ensure safe loading, securing, and offloading of cargo in accordance with safety standards.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and report mechanical issues to the Fleet Manager.
Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery notes, and trip sheets as required by Zambian law and company policy.
Adhere to all road safety regulations and traffic laws, ensuring compliance with the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) guidelines.
Ensure adherence to Dangerous Goods transportation standards when applicable.
Report incidents, delays, or operational concerns promptly to the Transport Supervisor.
Maintain cleanliness and good condition of the assigned truck at all times.
Represent the company professionally when interacting with clients, law enforcement, and the public.
Manage route planning, fuel, and maintenance of vehicle
Requirements
Profile (Knowledge, Skills, Certification & Experience)
Experience & Age
Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience driving heavy-duty trucks across borders
Must be at least 30 years old
Driving Capability
Must be able to operate a lowbed trailer confidently and safely
Excellent driving skills and strong defensive driving awareness
Must have proven cross-border driving experience, particularly on routes between South Africa and the DRC, and the DRC to Tanzania. Experience driving in South Africa is highly preferred.
Licences & Certifications
Valid Zambian PSV Licence (appropriate class for heavy trucks)
Valid Dangerous Cargo Certificate
Compliance & Background
Must present a clean criminal record obtained within the last 3 months
No history of major traffic violations or accidents
Health & Fitness
Must be physically fit and able to meet the demands of long-distance driving
Must pass a company-approved medical fitness assessment, in line with labour and transport regulations
Skills & Personal Attributes
Strong attention to safety and compliance
Good communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work long hours, including weekends and public holidays when required
High level of reliability, integrity, and work discipline
Knowledge of customs regulations and procedures
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
