Job description
CROP PRODUCTION MANAGER
Our client, a farm in Mpongwe, is looking for a self-motivated and experienced Crop Production Manager to oversee crop production, pasture development, and related farm operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and managing crop production activities from land preparation to harvesting, ensuring efficient utilization of farm resources, monitoring crop performance, managing farm employees, preparing budgets and reports, and implementing sustainable and cost-effective farming practices.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Administrative Duties
- Plan and manage daily crop production operations and capital expenditure.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on crop production, farm activities, yields, inputs, and operational performance.
- Prepare and manage crop production budgets and monitor expenditure.
- Develop seasonal crop production plans in consultation with the CEO and Management.
- Maintain accurate records of farm inputs, production activities, yields, machinery usage, and costs.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and agricultural standards.
Leadership and Management Duties
- Supervise, motivate, and evaluate farm employees.
- Allocate duties and ensure efficient completion of daily farm activities.
- Train workers on proper crop production practices and safe use of farm equipment and inputs.
- Monitor staff productivity and maintain discipline within the department.
- Identify production challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity among farm employees.
- Continuously seek innovative ways to improve crop production and farm profitability.
Crop Production and Pasture Management
- Plan and oversee land preparation, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest activities.
- Develop appropriate crop production plans based on seasonal conditions and farm requirements.
- Monitor crop growth and implement appropriate pest, disease, weed, and nutrient management practices.
- Ensure efficient use of seeds, fertilisers, chemicals, water, labour, machinery, and other farm inputs.
- Monitor crop yields and production costs and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Oversee pasture establishment, maintenance, utilisation, and improvement.
- Develop and implement sustainable land and pasture management practices.
- Coordinate harvesting activities to minimise losses and ensure timely completion.
- Maintain accurate crop production and yield records.
- Monitor weather, soil, and crop conditions and make appropriate production recommendations.
- Identify innovative and cost-effective methods of improving crop and pasture production.
REQUIRED SKILLSET
- Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience with a proven performance track record.
- Education: Certificate, Diploma, or higher qualification in Agriculture, Crop Production, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Good knowledge of crop production and farm management.
- Knowledge of pasture management and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Strong planning, budgeting, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of farm inputs, crop protection, and production practices.
- Ability to supervise and motivate farm employees.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a farm environment.
