CRANE OPERATOR (x1)

Overall Mission of the Role:
Within the frame works of the Plant objectives and annual action plans, his/her mission is to operate mechanical and lattice boom cranes to lift and move machines, materials, or products and other heavy equipment.

Main Responsibilities:

Inspects worksites, carries work in the safest manner to avoid accidents to oneself and others.

Cleans crane mechanisms: includes lubricating and maintaining mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices.

Determines load weights: includes checking weights against lifting capacities; works to prevent equipment overload.

Inspects crane equipment: includes structures or materials; identifies causes of errors and other problems or defects.

Operates various types of cranes: includes running, manoeuvring, navigating and driving equipment. Folk lifts will only be included after training and certification.

Uses hands and arms signals: includes installing, positioning, handling, and moving materials; includes manipulating things with crane equipment.

Performs any other tasks assigned by Supervisor.

Educational Background & Experience

Grade 12 certificate with 5 O levels

Minimum Craft Certificate in rigging

At least 3 years work experience in a similar role

Technical and Behavioral skills

Ability to determine changing environment and surfaces.

Ability to determine the tonnages and understand hand / arm signals.

Good communicator

Innovative, energetic and flexible
