Job description

Silondwa Safaris Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced members of the public for the following vacant position:

COXSWAINE/MARINE MECHANIC

Purpose

To inspect a wide variety of boats, identify any defects/faults that they may have, and repair those faults and drive/accompany groups of visitors to tourist attractions, whether on day trips or longer visits, as well as give them information and insights that help them make the most of the experience.

Main Duties

a)    Inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains boats and makes mechanical adjustments to these vessels, lubricating, repairing, or replacing parts whenever required

b)    Tests and repair boat engines, and work on hulls, propellers, masts, sails, and navigational equipment.

c)     Undertakes research and planning tours, prepares and gives presentations to visitors

d)    Shows groups of visitors round attractions such as historic monuments, cultural centres and beauty spots offering sightseeing advice

e)    Provides visitors with background information to help them make the most of their visit.

f)      Conducts walking tours, or support tourists on longer visits that involve overnight stays, perhaps to rural or remote locations.

g)    Transports and accompanies tourists translating and interpreting language skills as well as play an active part in the Emergency Response.

h)     Organises and looks for improvement in all matters relating to safety of the guests, crew and vessels.

Education and Work Experience

Grade 12

Certificate in Tourism/Hospitality Industry

Craft Certificate in Marine Mechanics or it’s equivalent

2 years prior proven experience in touris industry

Key skills

Candidate should be fit and healthy with lots of energy and confidence, be able to work effectively without supervision, possess a calm ‘customer focused’ manner, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
