Key Responsibilities for Core Engineer Jobs in Lusaka The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and supporting our core network infrastructure. Primary duties include: Troubleshooting and Support: Resolve basic to intermediate network issues involving Cisco IOS XE/XR, MPLS, LDP, BGP, OSPF, and vendor-specific systems such as Fortinet, Calix, Infinera, and Juniper. Provide frontline support for core network operations and escalate customer issues in the NOC under senior supervision. Thoroughly document troubleshooting activities and outcomes for team review. Network Implementation and Configuration: Assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of network hardware and software, including Cisco routers, Juniper devices, Fortinet firewalls, Calix platforms, and Infinera DWDM systems. Support basic BGP, OSPF, and MPLS configurations as directed. Maintain accurate network configuration records and contribute to operational reporting. Experience with microwave radio and spectrum planning is also required. Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor network performance using designated tools, promptly escalating anomalies. Perform routine maintenance on core and access network components following established procedures. Keep network diagrams and logs updated to support operational documentation. Learning and Collaboration: Collaborate closely with senior engineers to gain exposure to advanced BGP routing, switching, and DWDM technologies. Participate in team projects by contributing to design and support tasks. Assist in preparing performance and incident reports for internal use. Qualifications and Skills Required Applicants for core engineer jobs in Lusaka should meet the following criteria: 3 to 5 years of ICT experience or relevant internship exposure in networking technologies such as routing, switching, and DWDM within a service provider or enterprise environment. Basic hands-on experience with Cisco IOS XE/XR, Juniper devices, or Fortinet products is advantageous. Possession of a valid driver’s license and passport. Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. CCNA certification is required; progress toward CCNP certification is highly desirable. Familiarity with reporting tools and network monitoring platforms is a plus. Additional certifications such as Fortinet NSE 4 or higher, Juniper JNCIA, or DWDM technology certifications will be considered an advantage.
