Key Responsibilities for Compliance Officer Jobs in Lusaka
- Develop, implement, and maintain the institution’s compliance framework, covering AML/CFT policies, consumer protection, and Bank of Zambia reporting obligations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, internal audits, and deliver staff training on relevant regulatory requirements including the Banking and Financial Services Act and BOZ directives.
- Manage suspicious transaction reporting, KYC procedures, and act as liaison with regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Zambia and Financial Intelligence Centre.
- Prepare and submit accurate quarterly and annual compliance reports to the Bank of Zambia, ensuring adherence to licensing and governance standards.
- Collaborate with Audit, Risk, and Credit Committees to address compliance findings and implement corrective measures.
- Monitor regulatory changes in Zambia’s financial sector and advise management on implications for payroll lending operations.
- Utilize proprietary software (Credit Ease) for compliance monitoring and reporting, with full training provided.
- Promote a culture of compliance and ethical conduct through strong internal relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
- Zambian national with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in compliance roles within microfinance, non-bank financial institutions, banking, or fintech sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Bank of Zambia regulations applicable to deposit-taking and non-deposit-taking MFIs, AML/CFT directives, and consumer protection laws.
- Proven experience in regulatory reporting, risk-based compliance monitoring, and managing BOZ inspections or audits.
- Degree in Law, Finance, Banking, Economics, Risk Management, or related disciplines. Professional qualifications such as AML certification are advantageous.
- This position and candidate are subject to approval by the Bank of Zambia.
Skills and Attributes
- Proficiency in standard IT applications including email, Microsoft Word, and advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with a goal-oriented approach and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with senior management and group-level stakeholders.
