Job description

About ROCS
The Reformed Open Community Schools (ROCS) is a non-governmental and not for profit organisation registered in May 1997 with the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Act of Zambia. ROCS is an initiative of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) aimed at supporting vulnerable children to access quality education, nutrition and health services. The basis for existence is to show God’s love and example by living for, helping and working with, those in need.

About the Project:
ROCS is leading the Towards Malaria Elimination in Western Province project across five districts: Mongu, Nalolo, Senanga, Sioma, and Shangombo. Funded by the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) and supported by the Global Fund, the project was launched in June 2024 and will run for three years. Its primary objective is to combat malaria through impactful social and behavioral interventions that reduce transmission and improve health outcomes. This initiative is crucial for advancing malaria elimination efforts and enhancing public health in the targeted districts.

Position Summary:
ROCS is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Community Development Officer to lead malaria prevention and control efforts in Sioma and Shangombo districts. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the District Health Office, health facility staff, and community support structures such as Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community-based Volunteers (CCAs). This role will be pivotal in implementing community-driven interventions, raising awareness about malaria prevention, and fostering behaviours change across both districts. By working with local leaders, health professionals, and volunteers, the officer will help ensure the effective delivery of project objectives and contribute to the overall success of malaria elimination in Western Province.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate and oversee malaria prevention and control efforts in Sioma and Shangombo districts, ensuring alignment with the project’s objectives.
Foster strong partnerships with the District Health Office, health facility staff, community leaders, and local stakeholders to enhance the impact of malaria interventions.
Support the development and implementation of community-driven strategies to promote malaria awareness, prevention, and treatment.
Support and mentor community health workers (CHWs) and volunteers (CCAs), providing guidance and support to ensure effective implementation of project activities at the community level.
Organize and facilitate regular community engagement and dialogue sessions to address malaria-related issues and encourage behavior change.
Ensure effective communication and dissemination of malaria prevention messages through various channels, including community meetings, radio, and other media platforms.
Monitor and evaluate the progress of malaria interventions, identifying challenges and recommending solutions to ensure continuous improvement and successful project delivery.
Support the collection and reporting of project data to ensure timely and accurate documentation of outcomes and achievements.
Perform any additional tasks or duties as assigned by the project management team, contributing to the overall success and objectives of the project.

Qualifications and Requirements:

A degree in Community Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field. A masters degree in any of the above fields will be an added advantage.
Proven experience in community engagement, preferably in health or malaria-related programs.
Strong understanding of malaria prevention methods and social behaviours change strategies.
Ability to work in rural communities and engage diverse stakeholders, including community members and local health authorities.
Excellent communication skills in both English and local languages.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and report-writing skills.
Prior experience in project monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
Willingness to travel within Sioma and Shangombo districts.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates are invited to submit their CVs, along with a cover letter explaining their motivation and relevant experience for the role. Applications should be sent to recruitment@rocsedu.org by Friday 21st February 2025.

ROCS is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in the workplace. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals.
