Role Overview: Building the Commercial Engine

You will be responsible for setting up the Commercial Department from inception, implementing effective policies, and ensuring the company’s commercial discipline and profitability. Key Responsibilities for Commercial Manager Jobs in Lusaka

  • Department Setup & Capability Building: Establish and organize the Commercial Department including staffing, workflows, and reporting structures. Develop commercial policies, contract management systems, and performance tracking tools.
  • Commercial Strategy & Growth: Formulate and implement aggressive commercial strategies aligned with company objectives. Identify new business opportunities, manage lead pipelines, and lead tendering and proposal processes.
  • Contracting & Deal Structuring: Lead negotiations with clients, suppliers, and partners. Structure balanced agreements and oversee contract governance and dispute resolution.
  • Financial & Commercial Performance: Define pricing and cost models, optimize revenue, collaborate closely with Finance on budgeting and forecasting, and enforce cost discipline.
  • Stakeholder & Market Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with clients, government bodies, and industry stakeholders. Represent GEI Power in high-level commercial discussions.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and mitigate commercial risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement risk management frameworks.
  • Leadership & Culture Building: Build and lead a high-performing commercial team, instill a culture of accountability and execution, and foster collaboration across departments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. A Master’s Degree or professional qualification is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience in commercial, business development, or revenue-generating roles with proven success in building or scaling commercial functions.
  • Strong expertise in contract negotiation, deal structuring, and financial management.
  • Experience in the energy, infrastructure, engineering, or construction sectors is highly preferred.
