ROLE DESCRIPTION

Clinical Officers are responsible for the delivery of  high standards of medical care, together with excellent customer service at our  health facilities.  They work closely with other multidisciplinary clinicians to provide comprehensive health care services for patients and their families.

Clinical Officers are expected to carry out their duties consistently, ethically and in line with international standards and evidence based medical practices.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Diploma in Clinical General Sciences
Must be registered and licensed with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).
Experience in Emergency Medicine is an advantage.
Must have at least 3 – 5 years  experience post internship.

Medical Service Delivery

Actively participate in the efficient provision of medical services at the clinic by adhering to international best practice guidelines. This is with a special focus on non communicable diseases (eg: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Sickle Cell Disease, Malignancies)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Clinic and Administrative Duties and Reporting

Medical Service Delivery:

Ensure Best Practice by treating patients according to standard treatment guidelines (MBHS guidelines, Zambia National Treatment Guidelines, and  WHO Treatment Guidelines)
Schedule patient follow up
Ensure that patients are appropriately investigated.
Work with other clinicians to ensure comprehensive patient care
Consult if unsure about patient management
Adhere to MBHS Medical Service Policy
Adhere to the Patient’s Rights Charter.
Judicious pharmaceutical utilization, especially adhering to the restrictions on antimicrobial prescribing for Clinical Officers at MBHS.

Actively participate in the Clinical Governance meetings held monthly in order to review clinical audit results, incident reports, medication errors, near misses, clinical training programs etc.
Be able to offer support to other staff members at work to ensure  efficiency in service delivery
Actively participate in in-house training programs
Offer suggestions to the Chief Medical Officer/ Clinic manager of some of the training programs that can bring about staff development.
Be able to adjust and adapt to changes in the field of clinical practice, and stay up to date with latest developments in clinical medicine.
Awareness of the established channels of communication at the institution.
Report to Chief Medical Officer/ Clinic Manager on any administrative or clinical issues..
Ensure all notifiable diseases are brought to the attention of the CMO..
Adhering to  working hours as indicated in the employee’s contract.
Dress  in a presentable and professional manner (as per the MBHS uniform policy)

Customer service

Exhibits professional conduct at all times towards patients/clients and staff members
Not engaging in personal confrontations with patients, but seek Management’s assistance to resolve grievances.
Not engaging in any social conduct that brings the name of the company to disrepute.
Undergo in-house training in good customer service
There will be no tolerance for unprofessional behavior ( i:e bullying patients, rudeness,  yelling, etc

Health and Safety (H&S)Health

Ensure health and safety standards are adhered at all times and all staff attend the H&S training.

PROFESSIONAL

Previous experience working in a clinic/hospital in a senior administrative, or clinical role for at least three  years is essential.
Must have good administrative skills.
Must be able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Possess the ability  to work independently and efficiently, paying careful attention to detail, and being able to  multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Competency in effective communication skills.
Computer literate in Microsoft ‘Word’ and Microsoft ‘Excel’.

GENERAL

Adherence to the MBHS Uniform Policy and Code of Conduct.
May be required to travel to other MBHS facilities as directed by the Chief Medical Officer/Hospital Manager.
Must be honest, trustworthy and act with integrity at all times.
No consumption of alcohol is allowed whilst on duty. Intake of alcohol while off duty is allowed but inebriation on duty will eventuate in an immediate dismissal.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Proficient in managing infection control procedures.
Promote a culture that is committed to learning from complaints, incidents, audits, research and development.
