Role Overview:

Choppies Supermarkets is seeking a skilled, passionate, and hygiene-conscious Deli Assistant (Take Away) to join our hot foods and takeaway kitchen team at the Makeni Bonaventure branch in Lusaka. The primary goal is to prepare delicious meals and provide efficient, quality customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up kitchen and deli workstations with all required fresh ingredients, seasonings, and cooking equipment.
• Prepare ingredients for cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, portioning and marinating meat, preparing salads).
• Cook delicious hot foods, fried chicken, pastries, pies, and side dishes using commercial utensils, fryers, and grillers.
• Carefully monitor food while cooking, stirring, frying, or turning to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.
• Ensure appetizing, mouth-watering presentation by dressing dishes and warmers attractively before they are served to customers.
• Maintain a thoroughly sanitized, clean, and orderly environment across the entire deli kitchen area.
• Ensure all cooked and raw food items are stored properly at appropriate hot/cold holding temperatures.
• Check the quality, freshness, and expiry of all ingredients continually.
• Monitor food stock levels and alert supervisors to place replenishment orders when supplies run low.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma (Full Grade 12 Certificate) or equivalent.
• Food handlers’ certification & food production/catering certification.
• 1–2 years of proven experience working in a supermarket deli, takeaway restaurant, or commercial kitchen.
• Solid knowledge in commercial food preparation, deep frying, grilling, and kitchen safety.
• Good communication, customer care, and problem-solving skills.
• Physical fitness and candidate should be medically fit.

• Calm, focused, clean, and organized under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal skills and warm customer engagement.
• Supervisory skills — ability to train colleagues on uncompromising hygiene and presentation standards.
• Physical Exam Required: Medical Report & Police Clearance.
