Job Role: Butchery Assistant
Location: Makeni Bonaventure, Lusaka, Zambia
Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Overview:
Choppies Supermarkets is seeking an experienced, hygienic, and skilled Butchery Assistant to join our fresh meat department at the Makeni Bonaventure branch in Lusaka. The primary goal is to provide efficient, high-quality customer service and butchery preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in cutting, deboning, trimming, and packaging meat products and poultry.
- Maintain spotless cleanliness and strict hygiene organization across the butchery workspace.
- Ensure full compliance with national food safety, HACCP, and hygiene standards.
- Serve customers courteously; weigh, portion, and package meat cuts, and advise customers on preparation and cooking.
- Make sure butchery work stations and cold rooms are kept sanitized and clean at all times.
- Safely sharpen and clean knives, meat saws, mincers, and other cutting machinery.
- Display meat produce attractively in refrigerated display cabinets and windows.
- Ensure proper labeling, pricing, date marking, and stock rotation of meat cuts in the store.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma (Full Grade 12 Certificate) or equivalent.
- Butchery production certification or vocational training.
- 1–2 years of proven hands-on experience in supermarket butchery production.
- Basic knowledge in meat cuts, butchery tools, and food preparation.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical fitness and candidate should be medically fit.
Skills, Abilities & Requirements:
- Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced retail supermarket environment.
- Must be able to stay calm, focused, and meticulous under pressure.
- Supervisory skills — ability to train staff to use time efficiently and deliver uncompromising service quality.
- Physical Exam Required: Medical Report & Police Clearance.
