Job description

ADVERT FOR PART TIME CHAPLAIN

JOB PURPOSE

To provide spiritual guidance and support within the academic community, offering a compassionate presence for students, faculty, and staff from diverse religious backgrounds. To play a multifaceted role that encompasses counseling, pastoral care, and facilitating religious services and ceremonies.

1.     Educational Requirements

·      Grade twelve (12) or Form five (5) with five credits or better

·      Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Philosophy, or Psychology or a relevant field.

·      Master’s Degree an added advantage (Master’s in Theological Studies).

·      Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE): This is a specialized form of training that involves supervised encounters with people in crisis.

·      Experience: Previous experience in chaplaincy, pastoral counseling, or campus ministry is strongly preferred.

·      Board Certification: Professional certification from organizations

·      Ecclesiastical Endorsement: Must be officially recognized and “endorsed” by specific faith or denomination.

2.    Essential Skills & Competencies

·      Interfaith Fluency: The ability to provide spiritual support to students and staff of all faiths or no faith.

·      Ability to provide care to students and staff from diverse religious and non-religious backgrounds.

·      Crisis Intervention: Supporting students through grief, loss, or mental health challenges.

·      Conflict Mediation: Acting as a neutral party in campus-wide discussions or personal disputes.

·      Administrative Skills: Organizing campus-wide, multi-faith prayer rooms, and holiday observances. 

·      Providing spiritual and emotional support to students, faculty, and staff.

·      Leading worship services, organizing interfaith events, and offering pastoral counseling.

·      Providing bereavement support and ethical guidance.
