About the role: 

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Assistant Resident Engineer to join our site-based team at one of our mining client’s sites on a two-year fixed-term contract.

The Assistant Resident Engineer will support the Senior Resident Engineer in the delivery and supervision of civil engineering projects, with a particular focus on dams engineering, earthworks, construction supervision, quality management, and site coordination. The successful candidate will assist in ensuring that projects are delivered safely, effectively, and in accordance with the approved scope, programme, budget, specifications, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Assist the Senior Resident Engineer with the management and delivery of civil engineering projects on site.
• Provide technical support in relation to dams engineering, earthworks, construction activities, and associated civil infrastructure.
• Supervise contractors and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, designs, specifications, method statements, and contractual requirements.
• Support the planning, development, and monitoring of project programmes and construction schedules.
• Track project progress, identify potential risks and delays, and escalate issues to the Senior Resident Engineer.
• Assist with site investigations, inspections, measurements, and the gathering of technical information.
• Review construction methodologies, work plans, inspection and test plans, and other technical documentation.
• Monitor and report on project quality, progress, resources, and deliverables.
• Support the implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
• Conduct regular site inspections and prepare accurate technical reports, progress reports, and site records.
• Assist with the review of contractor submissions, technical queries, variations, claims, and non-conformance reports.
• Monitor compliance with health, safety, environmental, and mining-site requirements.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, client representatives, and other project stakeholders.
• Assist with the management of project resources, timelines, and deliverables in accordance with contractual obligations.

Minimum Requirements:

• National Diploma or BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering with a professional registration with EIZ.
• Specialisation in civil engineering with at least 15 years’ experience, including experience in dams engineering, earthworks and construction supervision.
• Practical experience in dams engineering; earthworks; construction supervision; site investigations; and civil infrastructure construction.
• Experience supporting project planning, programming, and progress monitoring.
• Understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction documentation.
• Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong organisational, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
• Ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities while working effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to support and guide junior to mid-level technical and site personnel.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to work on a mining site for the duration of the contract.
