Company Description

York Farm Limited is a joint venture between Lattice Management Consortium Limited, a company registered in Mauritius and University of Zambia, a Statutory Body in the Republic of Zambia. The company operates from two farms located approximately 25km apart, both within Lusaka Province.

With an operating history spanning over 40 years, York Farm is one of Zambia’s leading producers and exporters of fresh vegetables to international markets. The company also supplies a wide range of produce to the local market, including tomatoes, coloured peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, baby marrow, etc. in the green houses during the rainy season. In addition, York Farm engages in broad-acre crop production, focusing on maize, soybeans, and wheat, among others.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Lusaka, Zambia. The Assistant Farm Manager will work closely with and report directly to the Farm Manager.

Following are the key responsibilities of the role:

Leadership: Lead and develop the team in growing, production operations, quality control and facilities maintenance.
Management: Allocate and monitor tasks, evaluate performance, and foster a productive and positive work culture.
Budget Management: Assist in the preparation, execution, and monitoring of the farm’s budget, ensuring cost efficiency and identifying opportunities for savings.
Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and promote a safe, compliant, and sustainable work environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Horticulture. A qualification in Agriculture Economics or Business Management will be an added advantage.Financial software

Desired Experience and Skills

Proven experience in farm management, ideally within a mixed farming operation with a strong horticultural background.
Technically competent to work with the growing standard and requirement of the international markets.
Strong knowledge of plant care, production techniques, and pest management practices.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to engage effectively with staff, customers, and suppliers.
Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of sustainable and environmentally friendly horticultural practices.
