Job Purpose
The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Manager in managing daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. The role involves handling accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and assisting with budgeting and audits.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare, maintain, and reconcile financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Process supplier invoices, verify payment requests, and ensure timely payments.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate records of customer invoices and follow up on outstanding payments.
Assist in processing staff expense claims and petty cash management.
Bank & Cash Management
Perform daily bank reconciliations and report on cash flow positions.
Assist in managing banking transactions, including deposits, transfers, and withdrawals.
Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions.
Taxation & Compliance
Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, VAT, PAYE, and other statutory obligations.
Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies.
Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
General Accounting Support
Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledgers and financial records.
Assist in processing payroll and ensuring statutory deductions are accurately recorded.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Professional qualification (or part qualification) in ACCA, ZICA Level 3 or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years experience in accounting, preferably within the automotive sector or a related industry.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, taxation, and compliance requirements.
All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
