Job Advertisement: Agronomist – African Bird’s Eye Chili & Biodigester Projects
Location Kitwe and Surrounding Areas
Position Type: Full-Time

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agronomist to lead and manage all aspects of our large-scale African Bird’s Eye Chili (ABEC) cultivation projects in our new division. This role includes overseeing field preparation, crop management, harvesting, and post-harvest handling with a strong emphasis on maximizing yield and maintaining quality standards for both local and export markets.
In addition to chili production, the successful candidate will manage a biodigester system, including feedstock planning, operations monitoring, and utilization of biodigester by-products such as biogas and digestate for energy and sustainable agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities:

 African Bird’s Eye Chili (ABEC) Production
Develop and implement end-to-end cultivation plans for large-scale ABEC fields.
Supervise land preparation, seedling production, transplanting, irrigation, pest/disease control, and harvesting.
Monitor crop health and implement integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
Train and supervise farm workers and field staff on good agricultural practices (GAP).
Ensure compliance with export quality standards and organic or fair-trade certifications (if applicable).
Prepare reports on yields, field performance, and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing large-scale horticulture operations, with proven experience or advanced knowledge in growing African Bird’s Eye Chili.
Strong understanding of crop nutrient requirements and soil health management.
Knowledge of irrigation systems and precision agriculture is a plus.
Experience in agricultural project planning, budgeting, and team leadership.
