Job Summary

The Agricultural Technician is a key technical role within the transport management function, responsible for providing expert after-sales service, maintenance, and field support for the Company’s range of agricultural equipment, primarily tractors. This role is critical to upholding the company’s service-level agreements (SLAs), ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining the operational readiness of both client-sold and demonstration equipment. The technician will work closely with the Transport Manager and the Commercial Fleet Supervisor to execute technical support logistics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Technical Service & Repairs

Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on a wide range of agricultural equipment, with a primary focus on tractors.
Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDI) on new tractors and prepare used equipment for sale or demonstration.
Execute both scheduled and unscheduled field service interventions for customer-deployed machinery.
Accurately document all service activities, including parts used, labour hours, and fault diagnoses.

2. Field Support & Customer Service

Act as a mobile support unit, responding to customer breakdowns and service requests in the field to minimize equipment downtime.
Provide hands-on technical training and basic operational guidance to clients on the proper use and maintenance of their equipment.
Work with the Sales & Customer Service teams to gather client feedback and address technical inquiries.

3. Parts & Inventory Management

Collaborate with the Parts Coordinator to identify, requisition, and manage the inventory of critical spare parts for agricultural equipment.
Ensure the correct and efficient use of parts, minimizing waste and ensuring the availability of common components.

4. Workshop & Fleet Support

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment in line with HSSE standards.
Assist the broader maintenance team with the servicing and repair of other fleet vehicles (e.g., trucks, tankers) as required, based on workload and priorities set by the Transport Manager.
Support the coordination of tractor movements for deliveries, field demonstrations, and workshop repairs.

5. Compliance & Safety

Adhere to all company HSE policies and procedures during workshop and field operations.
Ensure all tools and equipment are calibrated and in safe working condition.
Comply with all road traffic laws when operating company vehicles for service calls.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

First-Time Fix Rate
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
Customer Satisfaction Score on technical support
Adherence to assigned SLAs for field response
Accuracy of service reports and parts usage documentation

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Diploma or Certificate in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Mechanization, or a related technical field from a duly accredited higher learning institution.
A requirement of this role is the successful verification of all academic and professional qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience diagnosing, servicing, and repairing agricultural machinery, specifically tractors.
Proven experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, power trains, and electrical systems in agricultural equipment.
Valid driver’s license; experience operating tractors and other agricultural machinery is a must.

Team Player: Collaborates effectively with the transport, maintenance, and sales teams.
