Job description
Job Purpose
To provide accurate financial accounting services, ensure compliance with HEA, ZRA, and internal policies, and support the University’s financial sustainability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
– Prepare and maintain general ledger, journals, and trial balance
– Process student fees, accounts receivable, and reconcile student accounts
– Handle accounts payable, supplier payments, and staff advances
– Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and cash flow reports
– Compile VAT, PAYE, NHIMA, NAPSA, and Withholding Tax returns for ZRA
– Support budgeting process for faculties and departments
– Liaise with external auditors and provide audit schedules
– Maintain fixed asset register and conduct periodic asset verification
– Ensure compliance with Public Finance Management Act, HEA guidelines, and University Financial Regulations
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy/Finance OR Full ZICA/ACCA/CIMA
Experience: Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience, preferably in a higher education or public sector environment
Registration: Must be a member of ZICA with valid practicing certificate
Skills: Advanced Excel, accounting software, ZRA e-services
Attributes: High integrity, confidentiality, analytical, able to meet strict deadlines
