Job description

Job Title: Network Specialist (2)
Reporting Line: Head Information/Technology
Station: Head Office – Ndola
Type of Employment: Temporary (6 months contract)

Purpose of Role

The Zambia Postal Services Corporation Network Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining the Corporation’s network infrastructure.

This role ensures the smooth operation of network systems, enhances security, and optimizes performance to support business operations.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

1. Network Design & Implementation

Design, configure, and deploy network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VLANs, and VPNs.
Install and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment.
Ensure network scalability and reliability to meet business needs.

2. Network Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related problems.
Conduct regular system audits and performance tuning.

3. Security & Compliance

Implement and maintain network security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols.
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
Respond to security incidents and mitigate threats to network infrastructure.

4. Network Optimization & Upgrades

Evaluate and upgrade network infrastructure to improve efficiency and speed.
Implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies for traffic prioritization.
Research and recommend new networking technologies.

5. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain network diagrams, configurations, and documentation.
Provide reports on network performance, incidents, and improvements.
Assist in developing network policies and standard operating procedures.

Personal Attributes and Skills

Detail oriented with technical aptitude and ability to perform function effectively.
Capacity to work under pressure prioritizes multi tasks and meet deadlines.
High personal standards of professionalism, trustworthiness and high level of integrity.
Strong knowledge of networking protocols.
Experience with network monitoring tools.
Understanding of cloud networking.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Qualifications/Requirements

Full Grade Twelve (12) certificate with at least a credit in English and Mathematics.
Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology.
A qualification in Networking will be an added advantage.
