Job description
Job Title: Safety Officer
Department: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
Industry: Telecommunications / Fiber Networking
Location: Lusaka
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Safety Officer to champion a strong safety culture within our organization. In this role, you will be instrumental in implementing and reviewing our health and safety policies, with a strong focus on field operations, safety compliance, and fleet safety
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Implementation: Develop, promote, and ensure strict adherence to company occupational health and safety (OHS) policies across all office and field environments.
- Fleet & Asset Safety: Conduct regular inspections and thorough documentation of company assets, with a specialized focus on PPE, tools, and vehicles to ensure safe operational standards.
- Field Inspections: Routinely inspect active fiber installation sites and work practices to identify hazards and ensure prompt corrective actions.
- Non-Conformance Management: Ensure all safety non-conformances, incident reports, and near-misses are investigated and closed out effectively.
- Training & Onboarding: Conduct comprehensive safety inductions for all new employees, contractors, and field technicians.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact for safety representatives, addressing concerns and coordinating swift resolutions.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Assist management and operations teams in the creation, review, and consolidation of safety-related SOPs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all safety activities, incidents, and audits, delivering periodic progress reports to management.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Professional Qualification: Minimum of a Diploma in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 1 year of proven experience in a safety role (experience within telecommunications, construction, or fleet/logistics operations is a strong advantage).
- Professional Affiliation: Valid membership with a relevant professional safety body.
Key Competencies
- Ability to work independently and manage safety compliance across multiple remote work sites.
- Strong knowledge of road safety, defensive riding principles (for motorbike fleets), and hazard identification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and training.
