Job description

The University of Lusaka invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Corporate Communications Specialist (1 Position).

Description

To coordinate the University’s internal and external communications, support media and stakeholder relations, and promote and protect the University’s reputation. To ensure that communication across the University is accurate, consistent, timely and aligned with institutional objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement corporate communication plans in line with the University’s strategic objectives.
  • Prepare and edit press releases, speeches, official statements, newsletters, reports and other institutional communication materials.
  • Provide communication support to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management, including preparing speeches, briefing notes and correspondence.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with media institutions, coordinate media coverage of University activities, and facilitate responses to media enquiries.
  • Coordinate internal communication with schools and administrative departments to ensure the timely dissemination of information to staff and students.
  • Identify and publicize University achievements, research, partnerships, student success stories and community engagement activities.
  • Coordinate content for the University’s website and official social media platforms in collaboration with the Marketing team and relevant departments.
  • Monitor media coverage and public feedback, prepare reports, and bring matters affecting the University’s reputation to the attention of Management.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of crisis communication plans, including drafting statements and coordinating approved responses to sensitive matters.
  • Ensure that communication materials comply with the University’s brand guidelines and established approval procedures.
  • Support communication and media arrangements for University events, official visits and stakeholder engagements.
  • Maintain records of official communications, media contacts, publications and media coverage.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management.
Requirements

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Media Studies or a related field.

· A Master’s degree Master’s in Corporate Communication or any related field will be an added advantage.

· Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations or journalism. Experience in a higher education institution will be an added advantage.

· Demonstrated experience in preparing speeches, press releases, reports and other corporate communication materials.

The candidates must have their qualifications certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

· Member of Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) will be an added advantage.
