Restaurant Cashier Jobs in Zambia: POS and Reconciliation CV Guide

Prepare for restaurant cashier jobs with accurate transaction evidence, fictional POS reconciliation practice and customer-service interview examples.

Restaurant cashier adverts may combine orders, payments, customer service, packing and cleaning. Read the vacancy and do not assume that handling money in one setting automatically proves competence with every point-of-sale system or restaurant control.

Describe transaction experience accurately

State the setting, payment methods, system or manual record, responsibility and supervision. Distinguish receiving payment, issuing receipts, balancing a drawer and approving a correction. Do not claim supervisor authority if another person authorised voids or refunds.

If your experience came from a school shop, church event or family business, identify it honestly. Transferable accuracy and customer communication can still be useful.

Create a fictional reconciliation exercise

Use invented values. Record opening float, cash sales, non-cash sales, authorised refunds, paid-outs if applicable, expected cash, physical count and difference. Include source references and the person who would review any discrepancy.

Do not silently change the figure to make it balance. Explain how you would recount, check records and report the unresolved difference. The sample demonstrates logic, not permission to adjust a real till.

Prepare order and handover evidence

Create a fictional order note with order number, items, payment status, special request, packing status and handover owner. Use no real customer names or contact details. Separate what the customer requested from what staff confirmed.

Add one complaint that requires a supervisor. Explain how you would remain clear and respectful without promising a refund or replacement outside policy.

Write the CV

Lead with cashier or customer-service experience relevant to the advertised setting. Use bullets connecting an action, control and outcome. Quantify shifts or transaction ranges only when you can support them and disclosure is appropriate.

List POS systems only when you used them. Training or demonstrations should be identified separately from employment.

Interview and application safety

Prepare stories about a discrepancy, a queue, an incorrect order and teamwork during a busy period. Good answers preserve records and request authorisation rather than hiding the issue.

Verify the restaurant, branch, contract, shifts and application route. Never pay for a cashier interview, uniform or guaranteed placement. Protect identity and bank documents until the verified process genuinely requires them.

Frequently asked questions

Can informal cash-handling experience go on my CV?

Yes, when you identify the setting honestly and describe the tasks and controls without presenting it as formal employment.

Should I fix a till difference myself before reporting it?

Follow the employer’s reconciliation and escalation procedure; do not alter records or add personal money to hide a discrepancy.
