Engineering Quality Controller – Construction Fabrication (Off-Crop)

Zambia Sugar Plc is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following Off-Crop position in the Manufacturing Department:

1. ENGINEERING QUALITY CONTROLLER – CONSTRUCTION FABRICATION x 1 – OFFCROP

Department: Manufacturing Department (Nakambala)
Reports To: Reliability Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible for detailing the relevant quality control checks under construction fabrication and ensure that the said checks are being carried out according to set standards.

Key Performance Areas:

• Provide oversight of various quality control functions required on key factory construction maintenance activities in the plant.
• Supervising quality control checks on various mechanical equipment throughout the plant, undertaking all quality control checks that will guarantee a full season run.
• Increase welding productivity by using accurate fit-ups, proper use of welders, proper weld sizing, effective weld station design, and elimination of rework and scrap.
• Manage the documentation requirements detailed in the Quality Control Management Plan.
• Report all issues to the Reliability Engineer / Engineering Manager and the Quality Control Team Lead.
• Engage with various stakeholders during execution of the works.
• Train and test artisans pre and/or post off crop.
• Generate WPS for construction purposes.
• Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies, and guidelines (SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption).

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Technician certificate in Metal Fabrication / Welding.
• Preferably 5+ years post experience in a heavy industry environment.
• A Trainer’s qualification will be an added advantage.
• Experience in the sugar industry is an added advantage.
• Solid construction-related experience with adequate knowledge on WPS from supervisor levels upwards and QC experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and deep knowledge of welding and cutting processes.
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
