Job description

FARM WORKSHOP MECHANIC

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from a reputable institution.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the repair and maintenance of tractors, diesel engines, and farm implements is essential
  • Previous experience as a workshop mechanic in a busy agricultural environment will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, including booster pump installations, borehole pumps, and centre pivot irrigation systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Planning and executing workshop activities in liaison with the Farm Manager, ensuring high levels of prioritization and efficiency.
  • Ensuring that farm machinery and equipment are serviced on time and maintained in good working condition to minimize downtime during field operations.
  • Diagnosing mechanical faults on farm machinery and equipment.
  • Repairing machinery and equipment whenever breakdowns occur.
  • Overhauling farm machinery and vehicles.
  • Calibrating and setting farm machinery and equipment for field operations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance carried out on all machinery and equipment.
  • Ensuring the workshop, machinery, equipment, and surrounding areas are kept clean, safe, and organized.
  • Supervising workshop staff.
