Job description

First Quantum Minerals is inviting applications for Graduate Participants under its People First programme. The opportunity is listed on the First Quantum Careers portal as GP Participant, requisition JR18049-1, based in Kalumbila, Zambia.

Key Responsibilities
– Participate in structured on-the-job training programs across different departments as per the development plan.
– Support departmental projects, operations and daily activities.
– Conduct research, data analysis and reporting to aid decision-making.
– Collaborate with senior staff and cross-functional teams to optimize operational efficiency.
– Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and company policies in all assigned tasks.
– Engage in continuous learning and skill development through mentorship and training sessions.
– Contribute innovative ideas and solutions to improve business processes.

Operational Requirements
– Understanding of mining legislation, SOPs and operational procedures.
– Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols and risk assessment methodologies.
– Ability to work effectively in a diverse, cross-cultural environment.
– Ability to work effectively in remote locations and diverse weather conditions.
– Ability to work at a remote mining site in Zambia.
– Must be comfortable travelling across First Quantum Minerals sites, local and international, when required.

Experience
– No prior experience required, but internship or practical experience in mining operations will be advantageous.
– Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure and in a team environment.
– Good verbal and written communication skills.
– Computer literate in Microsoft Office suite and Artificial Intelligence.
– Skills in managing projects, including planning, execution and reporting.
– Ability to tackle practical, production-oriented problems through mini-projects.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in any of the following relevant fields:
– Mining Engineering
– Geo-science related disciplines
– Geo-metallurgy
– Environmental Sciences
– Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
– Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering
– Process Engineering
– Industrial Engineering, Law, Commerce, Supply Chain or Economics
– Safety Engineering
– Business Administration, Human Resource Management or Social Sciences
