Job description:

PURPOSE

This critical leadership role is accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient construction of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at FQM Kansanshi Mining Plc (KMP). It requires a combination of operational leadership and technical focus, blending civil engineering expertise with a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. The successful candidate will champion best practices, oversee complex construction projects, and safeguard both structural integrity and environmental compliance, consistently upholding the highest industry standards.

As the accountable site execution leader, the Construction Superintendent – TSF is responsible for delivering construction activities across multiple high-risk, complex tailings storage facilities. The role emphasizes practical, efficient, and cost-effective execution of works, strictly aligned with approved designs, specifications, and engineering intent. While not providing technical design direction, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in challenging constructability, identifying risks, and collaborating with subject matter experts and engineers to ensure safe, achievable outcomes.

Success in this position requires strong situational awareness, the ability to manage complexity, and the confidence to step back from detailed issues to develop clear, workable solutions under pressure.

The role reports to the TSF Manager and works closely with the Technical Superintendent to develop, discuss, and implement technical solutions.

  • Lead all TSF construction activities with an uncompromising focus on safety, risk management, and environmental compliance.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture across contractors and site teams, particularly in high-risk TSF environments
  • Ensure all work is conducted in line with HSE standards, permit-to-work systems, and critical risk controls

Practical Problem Solving & Constructability

  • Assess complex and high‑risk situations with clarity, stepping above the detail to develop practical, actionable solutions. Lead the resolution of site issues through structured, solution‑oriented thinking.
  • Proactively identify constructability challenges during early project phases and escalate them to engineering teams and subject matter experts for timely resolution.
  • Constructively challenge design decisions when execution risks are identified, while recognising established technical authority boundaries.

Role clarity – Execution vs Technical boundaries

  • Operate within the execution/implementation role, ensuring adherence to approved technical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts when clarification, technical instructions, decisions, or design changes are required.
  • Act as the bridge between design and execution, ensuring that plans are practical and achievable on site

Contractor & Team Management

  • Direct and supervise contractors, supervisors, and site teams to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Allocate resources effectively and maintain accountability for performance and output.
  • Drive productivity while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.

Stakeholder Coordination & Communication

  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, engineers, subject matter experts, and cross‑functional departments—including mine production, mine technical services, engineering, smelter, process, environmental, projects, and others.
  • Communicate clearly, openly, and professionally—especially in challenging or high-pressure situations.
  • Navigate differing opinions and difficult personalities with a solutions-focused and respectful approach.
  • Provide accurate and timely progress updates, risks, and mitigation plans.

Planning, Cost & Schedule Control

  • Manage the construction budget and ensuring supply of required materials.
  • Support delivery of works within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Monitor resource utilisation, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Adjust work plans proactively to manage delays, risks, and changing site conditions.
