Job description
ASCEND FUTURES FOUNDATION (AFF)
EmpowHER Consortium Project
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Position: HIV Prevention Champion (Peer Ambassador)
Location: Chongwe, Chilanga and Lusaka districts
Ascend Futures Foundation (AFF), under the EmpowHER Consortium Project, is inviting applications from young people, especially Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), to serve as HIV Prevention Champions in Chongwe, Chilanga and Lusaka districts.
This initiative is part of AFF’s efforts, in partnership with Aidsfonds, Access Bridge and HopeStone Insight Uganda, to increase access to and informed uptake of HIV prevention options, including injectable PrEP (Lenacapavir and CAB-LA), oral PrEP and the Dapivirine vaginal ring (PrEP Ring).
About the Role
HIV Prevention Champions are peer leaders who raise awareness, share accurate information and support fellow young people to access HIV prevention services. Each Champion will be affiliated with a designated health facility offering Lenacapavir and other long-acting PrEP options within one of the three project districts, working closely with facility staff, Community Advisory Committees and AFF’s programme team.
Who Can Apply
– Aged between 15 and 25 years.
– Resident in Chongwe, Chilanga or Lusaka district.
– Willing to be affiliated with and work alongside a designated health facility in their district that offers Lenacapavir and other PrEP methods.
– Passionate about HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and youth or AGYW empowerment.
– Confident communicator, comfortable engaging peers, community members and health workers.
– Available to participate in trainings, outreach sessions and community engagements throughout the project period.
– Priority will be given to AGYW and youth with an interest in advocacy, peer education or community health work.
– A recommendation letter from the affiliated facility will be an added advantage.
What Champions Will Do
– Participate in AFF training on biomedical HIV prevention options, informed choice, advocacy and leadership.
– Lead peer-to-peer demand creation and outreach sessions in schools, out-of-school settings and community safe spaces.
– Support structured engagement between AGYW and their affiliated health facility, including PrEP-related demand generation.
– Contribute to community feedback forums and facility-based Community Advisory Committees (CACs).
– Document and share stories of change, lessons learned and community feedback with the AFF programme team.
– Represent AGYW voices in district-level dialogues, subject to further selection into the AGYW Advisory Panel.
– Create content on all available HIV prevention options.
What Champions Will Gain
– Structured training and certification in HIV prevention, advocacy and leadership.
– Direct mentorship and linkage to AFF, health facility staff and district health structures.
– A platform to influence community and potentially district/national dialogue on HIV prevention for AGYW.
– Opportunities for continued leadership growth within the EmpowHER programme.
