Mine Supervisor, Drilling – Exciting Opportunity in Kalumbila

First Quantum Minerals is seeking a dedicated professional for a full-time position as Mine Supervisor, Drilling, based in Kalumbila, North West Province, Zambia. The Mine Supervisor, Drilling will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising drilling operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all regulatory and company standards. This position demands strong leadership to maintain personnel competency, equipment readiness, and high-quality drilling performance while meeting production goals.

Key Responsibilities for Mine Supervisor Drilling Jobs in Kalumbila

  • Oversee all drilling activities, ensuring adherence to site safety procedures and mining standards.
  • Ensure all personnel are properly trained, assessed, and hold necessary permits such as driving licenses, blasting licenses, and first aid certification.
  • Coach operators to promote safe work habits and correct unsafe practices.
  • Manage fatigue compliance and report all safety-related incidents to the Coordinator, maintaining accurate records in the Logbook.
  • Participate in safety investigations alongside the safety department, implementing corrective and preventative measures.
  • Verify that drilling procedures and equipment checklists are correctly followed and documented.
  • Ensure construction of safety berms and that ground conditions meet required standards, including groundwater, voids, cavities, joints, and underground workings.
  • Maintain proper drill pattern demarcation, barricades, and signage according to standards.
  • Enforce compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for all supervised equipment.

Required Competencies and Experience

  • Proven experience in drill operations, including knowledge of various drilling techniques and operating procedures.
  • Ability to monitor drill machine performance, identify operational issues, and apply corrective actions effectively.
  • Experience conducting quality assurance checks and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Hands-on experience with drill equipment selection, operation, and condition monitoring to support maintenance and reliability.
  • Demonstrated capability to safely operate and supervise drilling equipment within a mining environment while achieving production targets.

Qualifications and Additional Requirements

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of five credits.
  • Diploma in Mining Engineering is required; a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field is an advantage.
  • Valid Zambian Driver’s Licence.
  • At least three to five years of relevant mining experience, including a minimum of one year in a supervisory role.
  • All academic qualifications must be verified and validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
