Job description:
Role Purpose
To supervise and coordinate all drilling activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while maintaining compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, and operational standards. The Drilling Supervisor is responsible for ensuring personnel competency, equipment readiness, worksite safety, drilling quality, and the achievement of production objectives through effective leadership and continuous monitoring of drilling operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that all operators and personnel entering the work area are adequately inducted on site safety procedures and systems and that these comply to mining standards.
- Ensure all employees are trained, assessed and permitted to do the work. (Driving / operating permits, blasting licenses and first –aid certificate).
- Coach operators in order for them to teach and /or correct unsafe work habits.
- Ensure fatigue management is complied with.
- Ensure that all safety and job-related items are reported to the Coordinator so that this information can be recorded in the Logbook.
- Report all accidents, incidents or hazards in your area of responsibility to the Coordinator and put preventative measures in place.
- Participate in safety investigations in conjunction with the safety department and implement corrective and preventative controls.
- Ensure drilling procedures are followed.
- Ensure equipment checklists are duly checked, collected and signed off.
- Ensure safety berms are built as per required standard.
- Ensure ground conditions are to standard (ground water, voids, cavities, joints and underground workings).
- Ensure Drill pattern demarcation, barricades and signage are of the correct standard.
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures for all equipment under your supervision are complied with.
Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in drill operations, including application of various drilling techniques and operating procedures.
- Experience monitoring drill machine performance, identifying operational issues, and taking appropriate corrective actions.
- Experience conducting quality checks and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Practical experience in drill equipment operation, selection, and application based on job requirements.
- Experience performing basic condition monitoring activities to support equipment reliability and maintenance requirements.
- Proven ability to safely operate and monitor drilling equipment within a mining environment while achieving operational targets.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of five (5) credits or better.
- Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Mining Engineering; a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field will be an added advantage.
- Valid Zambian Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ relevant experience in a mining environment, with at least one (1) year at supervisory level.
- All academic qualifications must be verified and validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
