Role Overview: Mine Supervisor Blasting Jobs in Kalumbila

The Mine Supervisor Blasting will lead and coordinate all blasting operations at the Sentinel Mine. This role involves overseeing blasting personnel, managing resources and materials, and ensuring that blasting activities comply with safety, operational, and quality standards. You will play a critical role in meeting production schedules while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily blasting operations and provide clear guidance to blasting teams.
  • Foster teamwork and resolve any escalated onsite issues to prioritize and complete work efficiently.
  • Monitor explosive contractors to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Implement and oversee MMU truck calibrations and charging procedures according to specifications.
  • Verify explosive contractor loading sheets to avoid double booking and ensure dip sheets meet requirements.
  • Conduct on-bench QAQC activities focusing on overcharging and undercharging accuracy.
  • Compile and maintain detailed blasting reports and data records.
  • Ensure all activities align with company policies and operating procedures.
  • Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to support subordinate development.
  • Coordinate resource allocation effectively, including PPE and consumables, in collaboration with the Coordinator/Superintendent.
  • Oversee PTOs, STC, and CCV execution on blasting blocks.

Required Competencies and Experience

  • Strong safety leadership and commitment to compliance.
  • Technical expertise in blasting operations and related equipment.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven team leadership and development capabilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a blaster in a mining environment, preferably in an open-pit setting.
  • Familiarity with sleeving methods, Axxis Electronics, and Blast IQ loggers.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Full Certificate with at least 5 passes.
  • Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
