The Specialist Commercial will play a pivotal role in managing relationships with operational sponsors and senior supply partners, driving innovation, continuous improvement, and procurement excellence across the contracts function.

Key Responsibilities for Specialist Commercial Jobs in Solwezi

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive category strategy aligned with long-term operational requirements and market dynamics.
  • Conduct detailed spend analysis, risk modeling, and supply market research to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing activities including tender management, supplier negotiations, contract drafting, and supplier performance monitoring.
  • Champion the adoption of automated systems and data-driven tools such as Power BI and service request platforms to enhance commercial processes.
  • Maintain rigorous health and safety standards, embodying zero-tolerance policies and leading by example within the team and supplier network.
  • Manage supplier relationships, evaluate alternative sourcing options, and ensure supplier compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle management, ensuring timely renewals and alignment with operational forecasts and business needs.
  • Provide guidance and support to management, deliver training where necessary, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in commercial, engineering, quantity surveying, or financial discipline, with verification by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
  • Membership in a recognized statutory body is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing commercial or contracts teams within the resource sector or asset-intensive industries.
  • Proven expertise in category management, procurement fundamentals, risk analysis, and contract negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence diverse stakeholders and operate effectively in international and virtual team environments.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Personal and Technical Competencies

  • Strong relationship-building and consulting skills with the ability to work at all organizational levels.
  • Logical decision-making, conflict resolution, adaptability, and high-quality problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and commercial negotiation expertise.
  • Effective time management, strategic thinking, and change management skills.
  • Experience in facilitating training and delivering presentations or business cases.
