Key Responsibilities for Plumbing and Electrical Technician Jobs in Lusaka

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Electrical Works: Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and equipment in line with Zambian electrical safety standards.
  • Conducting routine inspections and testing of circuit breakers, distribution boards, and emergency electrical systems.
  • Troubleshooting electrical faults promptly to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Maintaining detailed records of electrical maintenance and coordinating with external contractors as necessary.
  • Plumbing Works: Installing and repairing plumbing systems including water supply lines, drainage, sanitary fittings, and fixtures.
  • Detecting and resolving leaks, blockages, and water pressure issues efficiently.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on water tanks, pumps, boilers, and sanitation systems.
  • Adhering to health, safety, and building regulations for all plumbing activities.
  • General Maintenance and Compliance: Responding to maintenance requests and emergencies related to electrical or plumbing faults.
  • Managing inventory of tools and materials, submitting requisitions as needed.
  • Preparing regular maintenance reports for the Facilities Manager.
  • Liaising with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Safety and Community Engagement: Enforcing health, safety, and environmental standards on campus.
  • Ensuring installations and repairs pose no hazards to students, staff, or visitors.
  • Supporting junior technicians through guidance and skills transfer.
  • Participating in facilities meetings, safety drills, and maintenance planning.
  • Maintaining confidential records and communicating regularly with school administration.

  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical and plumbing equipment.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, pipe layouts, and technical specifications accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage maintenance schedules efficiently.
  • Flexibility to adapt in a dynamic school facilities environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and mentoring junior staff.
  • Familiarity with modern building systems, including smart controls and energy-efficient technologies, is an advantage.

Required Qualifications

  • Craft Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, or related technical field from a recognized institution.
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Minimum of three years’ practical experience in electrical and/or plumbing work, preferably in commercial or institutional settings.
  • Current registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or relevant regulatory authority.
  • Demonstrated competence in both electrical installations and plumbing systems, with knowledge of applicable Zambian standards and codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Age between 25 and 45 years.
  • Proficiency in English and basic computer literacy for reporting purposes.
