About the Fleet Operations Manager Role

The Fleet Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire vehicle fleet, implementing effective policies, and coordinating maintenance schedules. This position demands a proactive approach to route planning, driver supervision, and compliance with transport regulations. You will also manage vehicle procurement, leasing, and disposal, while continuously monitoring performance and safety across all fleet activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee fleet operations to ensure efficiency and safety of all vehicles.
• Develop and enforce comprehensive fleet management policies and procedures.
• Schedule and monitor regular vehicle maintenance and inspections.
• Manage vehicle procurement, leasing, and disposal processes.
• Optimize driver routes and schedules to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
• Monitor vehicle performance and implement necessary improvements.
• Ensure full compliance with transport regulations and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and driver performance.
• Supervise and train drivers to adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
• Prepare detailed reports on fleet performance, budgeting, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Oversee fuel management and implement strategies to minimize diesel consumption.
• Monitor and manage driver behavior to promote safety and compliance.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Logistics, Transportation, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in cross-border transportation within Southern Africa.
• Proven experience of at least 1 year managing a team of 50 or more drivers.
• Technical proficiency with GPS monitoring systems and advanced Excel data analysis.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fleet and freight safety regulations, including independent handling of accident claims and violation appeals.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to enforce discipline and maintain high operational standards.
• Flexibility to respond to emergency situations during nights or holidays as needed.
• Current paid membership and valid practicing license from the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT).
