Safety Officer – Re-advertised

Reports to: Safety Manager
Site: Solwezi

JVChantete Earthworks Ltd is looking for a Safety Officer to support mining operations in Zambia. JVChantete is headquartered at Mindolo North in Kitwe and is driven by innovation, excellence, and a commitment to building thriving teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Safety Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Develop and implement site-specific health and safety policies in line with company and legal standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Deliver safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Monitor the use of PPE and ensure compliance with safety protocols at all times.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses, preparing detailed reports with corrective action plans.
  • Maintain and update safety records, inspection logs, and incident reports in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure readiness of fire safety and first-aid equipment.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and assist during audits, inspections, or compliance reviews.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by engaging and educating staff on best practices.

Key Competencies

  • Good communication skills.
  • Certification and experience in First Aid are an added advantage.
  • Must be alert and assertive, tactful and diplomatic.
  • Must be ready to attend and/or conduct safety briefings every day.
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Team collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate with five O-levels including Mathematics and English.
  • Valid Silicosis certificate.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a similar field, preferably in the mining industry.
