Position Overview: Geologist

The Geologist will play a critical role in gathering and interpreting geological data from the Kansanshi copper deposit through Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling operations. The position focuses on enhancing geological understanding to support grade control and production activities.

Key Responsibilities for Geologist Jobs in Solwezi

• Implement, interpret, and report on RC drilling activities ensuring compliance with company protocols and safety standards.
• Coordinate sampling procedures, geological chip logging, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
• Supervise field assistants, technicians, team leaders, and drilling contractors to maintain operational excellence.
• Manage the flow of sample data from the pit to the laboratory and database, collaborating with database administrators to ensure data accuracy and security.
• Lead QA/QC programs and resolve any accuracy or precision issues with onsite laboratory results.
• Evaluate and optimize drill pattern designs in collaboration with the Senior Mine Geologist to reflect updated geological knowledge and ore domain changes.
• Verify and validate grade control ore mark-outs in the field and liaise with Shift Engineers and Plant personnel to meet ore quality and blending targets.
• Monitor ROM and long-term stockpile inventories and provide daily and monthly reporting on geological activities.
• Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development throughout all operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Mine Geologist.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of a Full Grade 12 certificate.
• Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent degree with Honours in Geology, Mining Geology, or related field.
• 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in grade control and production geology within mining operations.

Required Skills and Operational Competencies

• Valid manual driver’s license.
• Exposure to mining environments including dust, heat, noise, and chemicals.
• Ability to conduct and report on Industrial Hygiene requirements.
• Strong understanding of geological systems and their integration with mining production and resource management; grade control experience is essential.
• Proficiency with technical software such as Surpac, Datamine, Mapinfo, or LeapFrog 3D; knowledge of LIMS systems is advantageous.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Attention to detail with an analytical mindset to identify improvement opportunities.
• Ability to work effectively in dynamic team environments with strong problem-solving skills.
