Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Lead Jobs in Lusaka
Save the Children International is seeking a highly skilled Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Lead to join its Programme Development & Quality team in Lusaka, Zambia. About the Role
Reporting directly to the Programme Director, the MEAL Lead will provide strategic leadership to develop and implement robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems that align with Save the Children International’s Quality Framework. This role involves close collaboration with Programme Operations, PDQ departments, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders including donors, regional advisors, and technical experts.
The MEAL Lead will also oversee the capacity building of MEAL and programme staff, ensuring clearly defined roles and responsibilities across teams, and contribute to strategic and annual planning processes, including participation in the Child Needs Situational Assessment.
Key Responsibilities for MEAL Lead Jobs in Lusaka
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive MEAL system for the Zambia Country Office that meets Save the Children International standards and donor requirements.
- Review and strengthen the MEAL structure to ensure it is fit for purpose and effectively integrated with Programme and PDQ teams.
- Facilitate collaboration across thematic and operational regions to consolidate evidence and learning, supporting the development of the Country Strategic Plan.
- Manage and mentor MEAL staff, providing direct or matrix line management as required.
- Engage with internal technical working groups and communities of practice to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of programming experience within the aid sector, with significant focus on MEAL systems supporting programme effectiveness and quality.
- Experience in both emergency and development contexts is preferred.
- Familiarity with international quality standards such as the Red Cross Code of Conduct, Sphere, or Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).
- Strong knowledge of monitoring systems, including responsible data collection and utilization.
