About the Role – Refrigeration Technician Jobs in Chongwe

As a Refrigeration Technician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a variety of refrigeration equipment, including commercial refrigerators, freezers, chillers, and HVAC-R units. Your expertise will ensure that all systems operate at peak performance to support safe food storage and uninterrupted production.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections and service tasks on all refrigeration and HVAC equipment to maximize reliability and lifespan.
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues, identify root causes, and perform timely repairs to reduce production downtime.
• Monitor and record system parameters such as temperature, pressure, oil, and refrigerant levels; adjust settings to maintain optimal temperature and humidity for food safety.
• Adhere strictly to Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) standards to ensure a safe working environment.
• Follow all safety protocols, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Hot Work, and Confined Space Entry procedures.
• Collaborate closely with production and quality assurance teams to maintain required processing and storage temperatures.
• Complete all job cards, service reports, maintenance documentation, and time logs accurately and promptly.
• Manage system startups, shutdowns, and defrost cycles for plant refrigeration equipment.
• Assist with inventory control of refrigeration spares and consumables to ensure availability of critical parts.

Candidate Requirements

• Advanced Craft Certificate or Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial refrigeration, preferably within FMCG or food processing sectors; experience in meat or poultry processing is highly advantageous.
• Comprehensive knowledge of refrigeration principles, techniques, and best practices.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical refrigeration systems.
• Membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in diagnostic tools.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.
