Role Overview: Legal Officer Jobs in Lusaka

The Legal Officer will be responsible for ensuring the company’s legal affairs are managed efficiently and effectively. This includes drafting and reviewing commercial agreements, conducting legal research, supporting litigation activities, and maintaining accurate statutory records. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external legal counsel to uphold compliance and mitigate legal risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Documentation and Contract Management: Draft and review commercial contracts ensuring compliance with legal standards, and maintain a centralized repository for all contractual documents.
  • Legal Advisory and Research: Conduct thorough legal research, interpret relevant legislation, and prepare legal opinions to guide business operations.
  • Litigation Support: Prepare pleadings, affidavits, and evidence files, while liaising with courts and external counsel to support ongoing litigation matters.
  • Corporate Secretarial Duties: Maintain statutory records and resolutions, supporting effective corporate governance practices.
  • Risk and Compliance: Identify potential legal risks, escalate issues promptly, and assist with compliance audits and investigations.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Head of Legal.

Authority and Decision-Making

  • Recommend appropriate legal positions on various matters.
  • Issue routine legal correspondence independently.
  • Escalate significant risk issues to senior management as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • LLB degree: This is mandatory for all applicants.
  • Admission to the Bar: Considered an advantage, with 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Valid practicing license: Required to perform legal duties.
