Overview

Our client in the exploration mining industry is seeking a results-driven senior leader to join their team as Deputy Country Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operational and corporate management of their Zambian business.

Reporting directly to the Country Manager, this pivotal role ensures that company strategy, policies, and plans are effectively translated into measurable outcomes on the ground. The Deputy Country Manager will play a central part in driving operational excellence, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and supporting the long-term growth of mining exploration operations in Zambia

About the Role

As Deputy Country Manager, you will be the lead executive in-country whenever the Country Manager is away, providing hands-on oversight of site operations, financial controls and regulatory compliance. You will be expected to spend regular time at site each month, working directly with operational and contractor teams to keep programmes on track and within budget.

What You Will Be Doing

You will drive the implementation of board and management decisions, making sure timelines and governance standards are met. You will keep a close eye on budgets, contractor performance and procurement to ensure money is spent appropriately and company assets are protected. Engaging with government ministries, regulators and local communities will also be a key part of the role, as will overseeing the company’s environmental and social responsibility commitments. You will lead and mentor functional teams, building a culture of accountability and transparency across the business.

What We Are Looking For

A disciplined and commercially sharp executive who gets things done.
You should have strong financial acumen, the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, and a firm but fair leadership style.
Experience in mining, exploration or a similarly regulated industry in Zambia or the region will be a strong advantage.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Mining, Finance or a related field is required.
A Master’s degree or MBA would be an added advantage. Professional membership with a relevant regulatory or industry body is desirable.
A background in project management, corporate governance or operations management will be highly regarded.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing operations in the mining, extractives or natural resources sector.
Demonstrated experience managing budgets, contractors and cross-functional teams in a field-based environment.
Prior exposure to regulatory engagement, ESG implementation and community relations in Zambia or the broader African region is strongly preferred.
