Call for Project Officer

Location: Lusaka Zambia

The German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is the “Geological Survey of Germany” under the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
BGR has provided technical support for the groundwater resource management and development sector in Zambia since 2005. The technical cooperation aims to improve the capacities of groundwater resources management in Zambia regarding water supply and the protection of groundwater resources. The current project titled “Integrated Water Management for Increased Climate Resilience in the Southern Province” started in June 2024 and will run until May 2028.

In this regard BGR wishes to hire a Project Officer for the implementation of geophysical activities in Choma Southern Province.

For a

One (1) year contract duration starting from the 2nd of May 2026 to the 30th of April 2027.
Based on the performance of the candidate, there is an option for extension of the contract up to the end of the project in 2028.

Tasks:

Planning and preparation of hydrogeophysical field campaigns with support from the project staff in Lusaka and in consultation with our project partners.

Implementation of electromagnetic field measurements in cooperation with Southern Water Supply and Sanitation Company (SWASCO) jointly with the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation which will include a training-on-the-job approach.

Organization and monitoring of hydrogeophysical service assignments.

Management, processing, and interpretation of all collected hydrogeophysical data.

Preparation of project presentations, delegation visits and office organisation.

Organization and facilitation of a regular exchange with the partner institutions.

Preparation of technical and project progress reports in coordination with the partners.

Educational Requirements:

Degree in geophysics, physics, geosciences, or similar.

Minimum 5 years of work experience in geophysical exploration or hydrogeological investigations.

Minimum 5 years of experience in writing reports related to geophysical or hydrogeological topics.

Good knowledge of GIS, MS Office, and software for geophysical data processing and inverse modelling.
