Chilanga Cement, Ndola Plant, is looking to recruit dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and qualified individuals to take up the roles of

TRANSPORT PLANNER (x1)

Overall Mission of the Role:

to optimally plan, organize, communicate and execute deliveries within acceptable time frames and budget constraints.

 

Performance Criteria

 

Delivered costs (Unplanned hired transport capacity-cost impact)
Inventory cost reduction. (Unnatural movements of raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods -Impact on cost)
Fleet requirement planning accuracy
OTIF
Number of backlog orders
Lost sales due to lack of transport.
Quality of oral and written communication.
Inbound truck turnaround time.

Main Responsibilities

Health & Safety

Buy vitamins and supplements
Promote a positive safety culture through leadership by example and participation with others to drive the development of safety initiatives within the supply chain network
Defines and promotes safety and sustainability programs related to Logistics, including usage of safe modes of transport.
Ensure high standard of health and safety by leading annual contracted transporter safety audits.

Management Cycle

Produce daily delivery performance reports, identify gaps and identify actions to mitigate or eliminate the gaps.
Participate in daily/weekly On Time In Full OTIFIC report, identify reasons for nonconformance, identify actions, owners and closure within set time periods.

Transportation Planning

Owns and coordinates the Transportation planning process which involves receiving delivered orders from Commercial team, matching with appropriate Transport service provider and mode of delivery and ensuring all resources to execute delivery are available.
Challenge commercial on order processing time, credit holds and customer expectations so as to ensure Logistics delivers according to the customers’ expectations.
Challenge production/ shipping station team to ensure Product is available and loading equipment is on hand to meet customer needs and achieve high OTIF and customer satisfaction.
Ensure sales, production and logistics plans are aligned daily. Attend daily S&OP catch-up and drive for multifunctional alignment.
Ensure depots are stocked up to the required level of stock by product, highlight any constraints and identify mitigation actions.
Ensure minimized pending orders due to unavailability of transportation.
Escalate delivery requirements with no delivery solution to delivery manager to resolve.
Engage Procurement to ensure that transport service providers are properly set up in the system, with correct freight costs to ensure costs are correctly captured and transport partners are paid on time.
Data Analytics. Store and analyze delivery data. Draw insights from the data and use this information to drive continuous improvement of delivery function.
Monitor and analyses inventory status of contracted trucks. Understand current truck utilization and manage fleet
Reduce working capitals by optimizing inventory at each depot by managing deliveries to meet demand and stock to required levels.
Coordinate daily information flow between sales, plant and logistics.
Performs any other tasks assigned by superiors.

 

Meetings

 

Attend daily catch-ups with sales, logistics and production. Highlight any constraints to meet delivery performance
Lead weekly alignment meeting with weighbridge operators and contracted traffic control team.

Performance Monitoring

Measure weekly OTIF performance with actions to close any gaps.
Measure and report transporter performance vs. set targets on weekly fleet requirements. Use reports to challenge transporters to improve performance or to justify procurement of additional transport services.
Continuously improve S&OP process efficiency by studying, evaluating and redesigning the process.

Team Management

Daily supervision of the traffic control team responsible for communicating delivery orders to drivers. Ensure they execute their job according to Chilanga Cement expectations.

Education background & Experience

Diploma or degree (or its equivalent standard of education) in Logistics & Transport (CILT), Supply Chain Management, Business or Engineering.
At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role
Must be a member of the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

Technical skills

Strong knowledge of transport planning, road safety knowledge,
ERP and Dispatch solution knowledge, and Excel.
Ability to identify process improvements, managing change and delivering quantifiable improvements in KPIs
Highly computer literate with experience in using an
 ERP system, Word and especially Excel; knowledge of advanced planning systems
Planning, organizational and strong interpersonal skills.
