Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Project Controls Lead – LEP (Fixed Term Contract) to join the versatile Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Project Manager – LEP, you will be responsible for managing cost control, schedule development, risk management, and reporting by developing and implementing procedures, monitoring performance, providing technical guidance, and leading a team of cost, planning, and scheduling for the project.  

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

Project Planning and Scheduling:

Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and resource allocation plans.
Monitor project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Coordinate with project managers to ensure that schedules are realistic and achievable.

Cost Management:

Prepare and manage project budgets, including cost forecasting and financial reporting.
Monitor and control project expenditures, ensuring they are within the approved budget.
Conduct variance analysis and provide corrective action plans to manage budget deviations.

Risk Management:

Identify and assess project risks, developing mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project objectives.
Maintain a risk register and regularly update it based on project progress and changes.
Collaborate with stakeholders to implement risk management plans.

 Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

Develop and implement project control systems and tools to track progress against project baselines.
Prepare regular project status reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs), for stakeholders.
Conduct performance reviews and provide insights for continuous improvement.

 Quality Assurance:

Ensure that all project control processes comply with company standards and industry best practices.
Monitor project deliverables for quality, ensuring they meet the required specifications.
Facilitate project audits and reviews as necessary.

Stakeholder Communication:

Serve as the primary point of contact for project control-related issues.
Facilitate communication between project teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Ensure timely and accurate dissemination of project information to all relevant parties.

Team Leadership:

Lead and mentor the project control team, providing guidance and support to achieve project goals.
Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
Identify training needs and opportunities for team development.

Change Management:

Manage change control processes, including the evaluation of change requests and their impact on project scope, schedule, and budget.
Implement approved changes in a controlled and systematic manner.

Compliance and Documentation:

Ensure that all project control activities are documented and comply with regulatory and contractual requirements.
Maintain accurate records of all project control-related documentation.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Full Grade 12 School Certificate
BSC in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Construction Management 
Experience in the mining industry, with specific experience in feasibility studies.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills. good written and verbal communication skills and Team skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and good communicator
Must be familiar with safe working practices.
Must have a valid Driver’s Licence.

About the Team

The Lumwana copper mine is a conventional open pit (truck and shovel) operation. It’s located about 100 kilometers west of Solwezi in Zambia’s Copperbelt — one of the most prospective copper regions in the world. Lumwana ore, which is predominantly sulfide, is treated through a conventional sulfide flotation plant, producing copper concentrate.
