Description:

Job Purpose

The Inventory Accountant will manage inventory records, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and stock levels. Analyse data and support cost control initiatives to optimise Inventory Management. Examining and understanding manufacturing expenses, such as raw materials, labour, and overhead. Provide precise evaluations and reports on the financial status of inventory assets, offering in-depth analysis of potential cost-cutting measures and strategies to increase profits in inventory control.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Maintaining inventory records, conducting physical inventory counts, and reconciling inventory records to physical counts.
Identifying and correcting inventory errors, and recommending inventory levels based on sales forecasts and demand.
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely data entry
Ensuring that inventory is properly classified and valued, and that inventory transactions are recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Conducting Inventory Management training, and providing support to other departments.
Reconcile inventory discrepancies and resolve issues promptly
Monitor stock levels and perform regular audits to verify accuracy
Prepare detailed inventory reports for management review
Identifying and implementing cost-saving measures, such as vendor consolidation and inventory optimization.
Examine inventory expenses and discrepancies to assist in making financial choices
Establish and uphold Inventory Management Protocols
Analyse inventory costs and variances to support financial decisions
Collaborate with purchasing and warehouse teams to streamline processes
Assist with month-end and year-end inventory closing activities

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Full CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA preferred
Must have a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in Stock Accounting
Must be proficiency in Accounting software, such as Excel or ERP systems
Proven experience in Inventory Management and Stock Accounting
Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles and procedures.
Must be a member of ZICA
